چکیده

Studies on cytokinin-like substances synthesized by planktonic bacteria isolated from littoral and pelagial zones of lake Jeziorak in spring and summer have been carried out. 62.5% of bacteria isolated in summer, and 12.5% of bacteria isolated in spring were able to produce cytokinin-like substances. Among synthesized substances we found isopentenyladenine (2iP, iAde), zeatin (Z, ioAde) and zeatin riboside (ZR, ioA). No trace of isopentenyladenosine (2iPA, iA) was detected. The amounts of cytokinin-like substances produced converted into 1 g dry mass of bacteria were as follows: 9.97 21.59 μg for isopentenyladenine; 3.08 35.08 μg for zeatin, and 0.35 18.69 μg for zeatin riboside. Various taxonomic groups of bacteria were capable of synthesising those compounds, such as Vibrio, Bacillus, Aeromonas, Achromobacter genera and Enterobacteriaceae family. Among the analyzed bacteria it was only the strain of Achromobacter spp that produced two compounds at the same time (zeatin and zeatin riboside).

Chitinase Activity Production by Planktonic, Benthic and Epiphytic Bacteria Inhabiting the Moty Bay of the Jeziorak Lake (Poland)

A study on the occurrence and chitinolytic activity of planktonic, benthic and epiphytic bacteria was carried out in the Moty Bay of Lake Jeziorak near Ilawa. The greatest number of chitinolytic bacteria occurred on macrophytes. In terms of percentages, the chitinolytic bacteria share among heterotrophic bacteria was much greater in epiphytic and planktonic bacteria than in benthic ones. When c...

Aromatic Hydrocarbon Decomposition by Neustonic Bacteria Part I. Single-ring Hydrocarbon Biodegradation

The present paper provides an account of a study on benzene, toluene and xylene degradation by neustonic and planktonic bacteria in lake Jeziorak Maty. Aromatic hydrocarbons were better decomposed by neustonic bacteria than planktonic bacteria. Moreover, the obtained data point to the total number of bacteria and heterotrophic bacteria number being greater in surface microlayer than in subsurfa...

Antibiotic Sensitivity of Neustonic Bacteria in Lake Jeziorak Mały

This paper presents the results of research on the antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria inhabiting the surface microlayer (SM) and the subsurface water (SSW) of Lake Jeziorak Mały. It follows from the results that doxycycline, oxytetracycline and nalidixic acid are characterized by the strongest antibacterial effect. For some antibiotics, different strengths of the effect on bacteria isolated fro...

Aromatic Hydrocarbons Decomposition by Neustonic Bacteria Part II - Policyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Biodegradation

The present paper provides results of a study on heterotrophic bacteria occurrence and quantity in the biofilm and subsurface water of lake Jeziorak Maty. Degradation of several polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH's) (anthracene, naphthalene) by neustonic and planktonic bacteria have been examined. It has been discovered that some aromatic hydrocarbons were better decomposed by neustonic bact...

Occurrence and Activity of the Chitinolytic Bacteria of Aeromonas Genus

A study was carried out on the occurrence and activity of chitinolytic planktonic bacteria of Aeromonas sp., Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas salmonicida species, isolated from lake Jeziorak. Among the identified strains decomposing chitin the most abundant were Aeromonas sp.. All the investigated strains showed maximum chitinolytic activity at pH 6.0. An increase in chitinolytic activity was...
